Canadian engineers Human Media Lab at Queen’s University in Kingston again decided to surprise and presented a prototype flexible smartphone HoloFlex with holographic display. The image on the screen can be seen by the naked eye, without the use of 3D-glasses and other devices, and the three-dimensional image can watch several users who are on different sides of the gadget.
This was made possible thanks to the display, which is a surface from 16 thousand ultra wide microlenses, refracting light in different directions. As a result, the screen with FullHD -Resolution (1920×1080 pixels) displays the content in 3D-format with the final resolution of 160,104 pixels, which is extremely small by modern standards, but do not forget – it’s just a prototype.
But HoloFlex can not be afraid to spoil, strongly bending – this flexible smartphone. Manage applications and games you can as with conventional gesture of finger (touch screen), so and manipulation “in depth”, performed by bending the device. Such a possibility, according to developers, will be useful when working with three-dimensional models.
Himself a prototype equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and strongly customized OS Android 5.1 Lollipop. About the commercial production of these smartphones is not out of the question, and the display resolution for the issuance of an acceptable 3D-images should be at least 16K.
